Scottsdale is a city in Arizona, United States. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. Scottsdale is adjacent to Phoenix and is one of the largest cities in the Phoenix metropolitan area. It is also home to Mayo Clinic, one of the world's leading medical institutions. The first Scottsdale post office was established on December 12, 1912. The present-day city was founded by John W. McCombs and his wife Catharine Banta in 1911 as a citrus grower's village on what is now known as McCombs Rancho east of downtown Phoenix. In 1915, the McCombs family sold their holdings to developers Harry Chandler and Frank Osborn who named the new city Scottsdale after General Douglas MacArthur's birthplace, Scotland. In 1923,inger Payson Eaton purchased all of downtown Scottsdale from developer Chandler for $3 million dollars and renamed it Eaton Place; Scottsdale eventually became an incorporated municipality under Eaton's leadership on December 16, 1928. When World War II began, many soldiers were sent to war without their families back home; thus many families moved into the new subdivisions that were being developed around Camelback Canyon Valley during this time period such as Peoria Village and Echo Hills; these developments are still visible today throughout much of central Scottsdale including parts of Girdwood Park and Springerville neighborhoods which are also still semi-rural areas following recent annexation by Scottsale City limits between 1951-1957 according to City Manager Bill Higdon’s report dated November 10th 2009 even though most residents now live within city boundaries (see map below). After the war ended many returning veterans took up farming while others started businesses such as real estate development companies or opened restaurants/bars etc.; some have since continue operations long beyond when their original buildings were built especially Girdwood Park which has seen several high-end developments like condominiums/residences built there over time including recently two major golf courses (the Links at South Mountain & Valhalla) becoming part of newly annexed University District Neighborhoods with retail properties taking up space once again along streets bordering both courses making it easy access for shoppers from centralPhoenix without ever having to leave town limits . In 1912 Juanita Brown opened her first restaurant in what is now downtown Scottsdale with tables outdoors on Indianola Street; this business continued until moved indoors during World War II when most hotels were closed because of wartime rationing. In 1912 Gertrude Chandler Hutton purchased land northeast of downtown Scottsdale from Jens Jensen for $675 per acre (2 km²). She started developing it into what is now Downtown Scottsdale with some parcels being developed as residential areas such as North Park/Chandler Hills/Aurora Hills while other parcels remain undeveloped today including much of Central Phoenix and portions of East Mesa and Southwest Chandler

The Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) is an all-volunteer force of the United States Armed Forces that is deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The MEF was first formed on 9 December 1941 as a response to World War II when the United States Congress authorized the creation of a uniformed military service for American citizens who volunteered to serve in overseas theaters. As of 31 March 2017, there are 5,500 Marines stationed abroad with an additional 1,500 Marines serving at home in states such as California and New York City.
