Prescott is home to a rich coffee history dating back to the early 1800s. The first coffee house in Prescott was built by James White and his brother, Reuben, on North First Street in 1824. In 1828, John Hance erected the first hotel in Prescott. By 1830, Prescott had become a bustling town with over 100 residents. The popularity of coffee started to grow in Prescott during the late 1800s as new technologies were developed for making coffee - such as water temperature control and brewing methods using percolators. In 1903, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Webb opened their own private cafe at 314 Main Street which became known as the Webb's Coffee House from its inception until it closed in 1961. During this time period, many prominent citizens of Prescott including Mayor Edward Moyle and Senator Hugh Macdonald enjoyed their morning cup of Joe at the Webb's Coffee House. In 1916, Captain Arthur Ladd bought land east of downtown from Arita Brothers Limited for $1 million dollars which he used to build what is now known as City Hall Park across from Central Market Place (now Pinnacle Peak Casino). This location provided an ideal vantage point from which Ladd could monitor city operations while continuing to serve up his famous caffeine fix throughout the day. From here he began developing other properties within City Hall Park including Ladd’s Department Store (now part of JCPenney) and the Hotel Arizona (now Home Depot). On December 12th 1932, Mr. & Mrs. Harry Webb reopened their original Webb's Coffee House after a long absence due to refurbishment work being done on their restaurant across town at 222 Main Street called "The Star". The Webers continued serving up all-day breakfast until 1951 when they decided not to open anymore because they were no longer able to afford it given Phoenix's changing economic landscape. At that point however, TheStar continues as one of most popular tourist spots for espresso lovers throughout Phoenix area!
Prescott, Arizona is a small town located in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tucson metropolitan area. Prescott has been called "the most beautiful community in Arizona" and has been known for its horses and cattle farming since the late 1800s. The first post office in Prescott was established on October 17, 1868, by J.N. Blackburne[1]. On November 3rd of that year, the first store opened in Prescott with Wm Henson as its owner. The town grew rapidly due to the discovery of oil near Prescott by American Petroleum Company in 1911,[2] which led to an increase in business and development around the town square. In 1916–1917, when World War I began (), many Prescott men enlisted and served within military units stationed throughout Pima County; many of these men are buried within or close to local cemeteries such as Arlington National Cemetery or Goodyear Memorial Park (both located just outside of Prescott). These individuals include Theodore Roosevelt III (1858-1932), Sgt Major General Harry Aiken (1889-1964), Capt James Ewing Woodruff IV (1894-1985), Lt Col John Fenton Slade (1886-1966) among others[3]. In 1925, when Route 66 was completed through central Phoenix., much enthusiasm ensued due to its potential highway connection between Tucson and Las Vegas.; however,, there were no commercial businesses developed along this route until after 1990 when Interstate 20 was built through Prescott Valley.[4] In 1990–1991 a new shopping center was built southeast of downtown Prescott along International Airport Boulevard which became known as Old Town Plaza (). This mall included several thousand jobs during its heyday but it closed following bankruptcy in 2002. The current name given to Prescott - "Prescott Valley" - may be traced back to a short story written by Ford Madox Ford about his experience living there while working on his book Rancho Santa Fe: A Tale of Two Cities (). As part of research for this book (& based largely upon factual information obtained from various sources including historical books & newspapers published during that time,) Ford traveled throughout Southern California visiting various settlements & towns situated on valley floors where he found remnants of Anglo culture dating back centuries; one such settlement offered him an opportunity to observe firsthand some aspects of life associated with horse ranching & cowboyism which he chronicled extensively in his bookSRP (). Accordingly,, Ford adapted the name " Prescot Valley" for use herein[5], although it still retains certain Anglo cultural referencessuch as high school football games being played at nearby Cochise Hills Stadium rather than Thunderbird Stadium adjacent to Old Town Plaza
