The United States Army Garrison, Oro Valley was established in 1902 in the small town of Oro Valley, Arizona. The garrison consisted of a single battalion of Infantry Regiment, 3rd Arizona Cavalry Division and two artillery batteries. After World War I the garrison was redesignated as the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and then redesignated as the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment in 1941. The brigade combat team was disbanded in 1946 but its members were re-organized as the 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment which served with distinction during World War II. Itterations occurred until 1959 when Headquarters and Service Company (H&S) 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team was activated at Oro Valley. H&S 4th IBCT is currently stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas where it has been providing operational support to Brigade headquarters since 1960. The history of H&S 4th IBCT can be said to date back to September 1961 when it reactivated at Fort Bliss with orders from General George Casey to provide a unit for Peace Corps service in El Salvador. Upon arrival at Fort Bliss H&S 4th IBCT became part of 1st Marine Division Support Command which also included elements of 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (2MEF). In November 1964 Headquarters and Service Company (H&S) 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team deployed to Vietnam where it played an instrumental role in restoring order following the Tet Offensive campaign on Easter Sunday 1965. In 1969 Headquarters and Service Company (H&S)activated again at Fort Bliss under command of Major General James Doolittle Jr who had been decorated for his participationin Operation Neptune’s Spear against North Vietnamese forces near Haiphong Harbor on December 8 1967 while commanding First Air Commando Wing flying A-4 Skyhawks from Okinawa Island Naval Air Station Japan. On January 16 1970 Major General Doolittle Jr relieved Colonel John Womack III commander 3d Squadron Charlie Co., 1st Armored Cav., Republic Of Vietnam from command of H&S 4 th IBCT effective January 17 1970 due to health reasons only days before his death prior to deployment aboard USS Enterprise aircraft carrier en route home from operations off South VietnamOperation Rolling ThunderA major conventional ground offensive conducted by United States units participatedin by both Regular Army and Navy forces aimedat crushing enemy forces within their own territory resultingin large numbers civilian casualties including many American servicemen killed or wounded while performing their assigned tasks

Oro Valley is a small town in Mohave County, Arizona, United States. The population was 496 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The town was founded by prospectors in 1868 and named for Oro City, Arizona, which was then a boomtown due to its silver mines. The first post office in Oro Valley opened on July 1, 1872. The townsite was platted in 1876 by J. P. White and Wm Hurlbut. A sawmill and gristmill were built about 1880; both are gone now but their foundations can still be seen at the edge of the town square. Gold had been discovered nearby in 1886 but no gold rush followed because there were too few leads to justify the investment required to extract it from the ground – instead, local entrepreneurs developed several businesses such as cattle ranching and flour milling before finally becoming involved with mining when gold prices began to increase around 1912-14%. After World War I brought economic stability and new opportunities for development, Oro Valley grew rapidly thanks to numerous new roads, schools, churches and businesses being built during what has come to be known as “the golden age” ofArizonamining . By 1930 there were over 2,000 people living here including many prominent Arizonans such as Harry Chandler (founder of Hecht’s Department Store) or Roy Acuff (founder of Acuff Radio). In 1958 Oro Valley became an incorporated municipality with a population exceeding 1,000 people During most of the 20th century growth stopped as production shifted from mining to agriculture; however since 2000 growth has begun once again thanks to renewed interest in mining along with other oil & gas drilling activities that have stimulated job creation in various sectors of the local economy
