The history of small batch coffee in Mesa, Arizona can be traced back to the early 1800s. In that time, the area was home to a number of small farms and businesses that grew coffee beans. The beans were gathered from local trees and used for both commercial and personal use. This led to some very unique relationships between these farmers and their roasters. Some of these relationships led to some of the most classic smallbatch coffees in all of Arizona. One such relationship came about because one of the farmers at this point was also one of the first people to start processing coffee into ready-to-drink cups. He named his business after an old Englishman who had introduced coffee beans to America in the early 1800s. This man, named Richard Burton,initially processed the beans into kettles which he sold directly to consumers. This connection with Burton is significant because it helped set Mesa apart as a place where small batch coffee was enjoyed by many for years to come. Today, Mesa is home to a number of different roasters who continue doing business with old friends from earlier times. Some notable roasters here include Blue Bottle Coffee Company, Peet’s Coffee Company, and Baja Fresh Coffee Company among others. Each company has its own unique story behind how they got started in the world of small batch coffee - but all share a common goal: To support local agriculture through their production.

Ginebra named his new town "Mesa" after Santiago Matamoros y Gómez who fought alongside General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna during both the Mexican War (1846-1848) and independence war against Mexico (1911-1912). By 1912 Mesa had developed into a small cattle ranch community with 10 buildings including a schoolhouse, corral, stable, doctor's office, storeroom and kitchenette complete with privy and bathroom facilities inside an adobe barn attached to the ranch house which still stands today. Ginebra died in 1914 but his daughter Lila continued developing Mesa until her death in 1984 leaving behind more than 200 businesses that have since opened up in downtown Mesa alone! Today Downtown Mesa offers several attractions such as art galleries, restaurants/bars/cafés/stores/, nightlife venues/ arcades/. As one continues down Main Street one can find several parks like Mission Park across First Avenue or Camelback Mountain just minutes away!
