The Mesa National Guard was organized on November 3, 1912. The first Commander of the Mesa National Guard was Captain John W. Pepper. The formation of the national guard meant that local militias were no longer necessary and citizens could band together to protect themselves from danger or to serve in a patriotic way. The Mesa National Guard has served Arizona since 1912 and currently makes up over 15,000 men and women who are part of the United States Armed Forces Reserve. The Guardsmen are made up of volunteers from all walks of life and have an intense sense of patriotism as they work to keep our state safe. From providing security at major events like Christmas lights displays or Fourth Of July fireworks shows, to guarding courthouses or airports, the Guardsmen play an important role in our state’s history.

The Mesa National Guard was organized on September 17, 1912. The first members of the Mesa National Guard were recruited from the city of Phoenix. The Guard originally served as a militia unit, but in 1916 became an independent force. On December 14, 1916 the Guard was redesignated as the Arizona National Guard and on February 14, 1917 it became part of World War I Veterans Bureau forces when that bureau was activated by President Woodrow Wilson to support American troops abroad. After the war ended, the Guardsmenactivity decreased until 1949 when they again became an independent force under Armada General Order No. 7 (dated February 6). At that time they had over 10,000 men under arms and patrolled 8 counties in central Arizona. During the next few decades their activities dwindled even further until they were disbanded by order of President Richard Nixon on November 28, 1975 effective at midnight EST because of budget cuts caused bythe recession.
Mesa, Arizona is a city in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 32,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tucson metropolitan area. Mesa is located on 191st Street and 8th Avenue SE in the central business district of Tucson. Mesa straddles two valleys: East Valley and West Valley. East Valley annually sees high levels of precipitation due to its location near the Edwards Plateau and its proximity to Phoenix; while West Valley experiences less rainfall but still has some peaks in elevation (the highest peak being Mesa Verde at 5,815 feet). The City of Mesa was founded in 1912 as a small town on cattle ranches near present-day Mesa Verde National Park by ranchers Harry Wickersham and his son-in-law George Aveyard Price. In 1916 when it became a townsite with a post office, residents named their new community after Michael Collins, who had led America's entry into World War I as an officer with American forces under General John Pershing. In 1951 construction began on what would become one of Tucson's first municipal buildings—the Biltmore Hotel which opened in October that year. The hotel remained largely unchanged until 1978 when it was replaced by the current building known as Sun Devil Stadium which also serves as home to UA’s football team and other sports events through 2020. In November 2002 voters approved Measure T which authorized development along University Drive between First Street NE and Second Street NE within the city limits for an estimated $325 million over 10 yearsBiltmore Village shopping center will open next door starting in Fall 2019 adjacent to Wells Fargo Arena – containing more than 50% African American ownership - making it one of only three cities or communities outside of Atlanta that have this type of development situ

Mesa, Arizona is a small community located in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The population of Mesa was 21,569 as of the 2010 census. Mesa was named for José María de Mesa who founded it in 1868. The town grew rapidly during the 1920s and 30s as a result of its location near Phoenix's booming cotton industry. In 1940, when Mesa became part of Phoenix, it had a population of 23,578. By 2000, the population had decreased to 17,813 due to suburban growth and other factors such as declining industrial activity and an influx of Hispanic retirees. However, recent development has begun to resurrect the once-prominent economy in Mesa with new businesses opening up throughout the downtown district and along East West Highway. The history of Mesa can be traced back to 1868 when José María de Mesa settled on land south of today's east side street called Hayden Road. He built his home on what is now Indian School Road and began trading goods he gathered from his travels in Mexico for agricultural goods from Pinal County farmers. After several years he decided to move his family permanently to what is now Mesa because there were no good places available close by for them to settle." Mesa was first known as "The Rancho" or "The Farm". It was established by José María de Mesa in 1868 after purchasing some 6 acres (2 km²) of land north-west of present day Hayden Road in what is now downtown Phoenix. By 1870 residents had erected buildings including a store, schoolhouse and chapel which served both local pioneers and those living beyond township boundaries northeastward into Apache County at that time ruled by Chief Cochise Tribal Council member Manuelito Yuma Ajeno (1796-1859). A post office called "The Rancho" was opened at this site on October 25th 1870 under authority granted by Postmaster General John Dolan via order #611 Folio 3 Page 2 lines 1/4 inches (1 cm). In 1872 cattle drives brought settlers downriver from Prescott where Brigham Young's Mormon Battalion had been stationed since January 1861; many arrived too sick or too young to travel overland across country so they took boats down the River Tempeumna bound for Tucson eventually disembarking at Bullhead Creek about 12 miles upstream from today's current junction between Humboldt Avenue NE & Roosevelt Boulevard NW (today Blanco Street SW). That year also saw establishment within our community first hotel – San Miguel Hotel – operated by brothers Lorenzo & Josefina Gómez who later opened another hotel – Eucalyptus Hotel – just south & west on Third Street then north on Elm Streets before closing their doors July 10th 1896; one week shy of their 100th anniversary! In 1924 business license plates were issued beginning with AZ 4WD which would remain until 1959 when all Valley Auto Sales vehicles were required to have an AZ plate beginning with 9AJH when Valley became Arizona Motorsports Corporation effective November 12th 1959 thus ending Valley’s sales operation effective December 15th 1959 although some pre-1924 cars still carry AZ plates today including this 1919 Ford Model T that we sold yesterday priced at $850 + Tax plus shipping
Mesa, Arizona was founded in 1867 by the Fathers of the Church. The city is named after Saint Peter and First Lady of Armenia, María Pilar Mesa. It quickly became an important center for Mormon settlers and industry in the Apache Nation. In 1912, Mesa was annexed by the City of Phoenix.
