Goodyear, Arizona is a city in Pima County, Arizona. The population was 46,592 at the 2010 census. Goodyear was founded on December 12, 1867 by John Goodyear as a trading post near Apache Pass on the Gila River. The first election held under this new system took place on October 15, 1907 and James Waddell was elected Mayor. The first school building was constructed at Fourth Street and Washington Avenue in 1912-14 (the current Grand Central School). In 1916, President William Howard Taft ordered all U.S military installations closed due to World War I but Goodyears responded by opening up its local armory which became known as "The Arsenal". This policy led to increased trade between Goodyear and other WesternArizona towns because good munitions could be bought here at low prices then shipped east where they were made into munitions again while still being affordable for American consumers. Goodyear, Arizona is a town in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 10,521 at the 2010 census. Goodyear is located on the Huachuca Mountains and has a Mediterranean climate. Goodyear was founded by Charles Goodyear in 1868. It became a city in 1912 and incorporated as a borough in 1916. The name of the town comes from English General John Campbell's observation that "the hardiest people are those who live near water". The post office at Goodyear opened on July 1, 1868, and remained open until it was discontinued on December 15, 1935. The first settlers in what would become Goodyear were Charles Goodyear and his family who arrived from England in 1866. They set up shop around what is now First Street and North Avenue. By 1870 there were about 25 families living here including Charles' three sons: Abraham (1869-1941), George (1871-1952), and Alfred (1873-1945). In 1885 the Gold Rush started to rush through Tucson so many people moving into this new region seeking opportunities came to good soil around Goodyear searching for gold nuggets to bring back home with them. One of these prospectors was Hiram Maximillian which led to him getting richquickly off his discovery of a small stream called Gold Gulch east of present day Goodyear along Highway 66 just south of Interstate 805
