The Gilbert Army deployed gift history in 1959. The first military deployment of the Gilbert Army occurred on November 25, 1959 when an armored unit from Fort Huachuca was sent to provide security for a peace-time cattle drive. The fort was located about 2 miles east of town and housed about 350 soldiers and civilians. On December 5, 1959, the Gilbert Army deployed Gift History No. 1 when an artillery regiment from Fort Huachuca arrived in town for a ceremonial event at the high school. A few days later, on December 11, 1959, the GilbertArmy deployed Gift History No. 2 when an infantry regiment from Fort Huachuca moved into town for a holiday party sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. In 1960, the city of Gilbert began hosting its own annual Christmas parade which included units from both Ft Huachuca and other military installations in the area. In 1962, Gifts From Our Troops No. 3 arrived in town and served as the inaugural deployment of this type of gift giving program within the army deployment gift history tradition. And finally no less than 8 different deployments occurred between 1967-1972 across many different military installation sites!! The Gilbert Army National Guard was activated on July 1, 1907. The regiment was redesignated the Arizona Infantry Regiment on February 14, 1912 and again on November 15, 1916 as the Arizona Division of the United States army. On November 15th also, it was given its present name: The Gilbert Army National Guard. The unit was mobilized for World War I on April 10th 1917 and served in France and Belgium before being redeployed to the United States in October 1917. In December 1917, it joined forces with the 95th Infantry Division from New Mexico to form an infantry brigade within that division which became known as Brigade A (later brigades B (1918), C (1925), D (1928) and E (1929)) It participated in maneuvers along the Mexican-American border from 1929-1930 during which time it earned its first battle honor: Battle of Huajuapan Creek Bridge. After returning stateside in 1930, it garrisoned at Camp Bowie until 1935 when it moved to Fort Bliss where it remained until 1938 when deployed to Casablanca Morocco as part ofOperation Torch. Gilbert, Arizona is a small town in Pinal County, Arizona. The population was 1,597 at the 2010 census. Gilbert is centered on the intersection of U.S. Route 66 and State Road 97B. It is known for its annual Gilbert Christmas parade which begins near the courthouse square and ends at University Park Mall. The first European to see Gilbert was Juan Bautista de Anza on January 14, 1769 when he passed through the area while travelling from Tucson to Apache Pass in what is now central Arizona. He named it Yuma after his home country yuma cattle were then being exported from this region. In 1827, Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna founded Phoenix along with land beyond today's Gilbert Mesa and named it Nuevo Mexico after Rancho Santa Anita east of Tucson where he had been stationed as a commander during the Mexican-American War (1810-1821). In 1828 Santa Anna granted 3 square miles (8 km²) of present-day eastern Pinal County to Lorenzo Guerra alias Don Carlos Aguilar for development into a new town called Nuevo Phoenix under the jurisdiction of Camp Bowie military post located about 25 miles (40 km) southeast of Nuevo Phoenix on March 4, 1828 by order of President James Kenedy; this camp functioned as an Indian trading post until February 2, 1862 when all military posts within 5 miles (8 km) were abolished by act of Congress (). Many settlers arrived by stagecoach overland from Prescott via Yuma Territory (); many more came via wagon train overland from California . On July 15, 1870 citizens petitioned Congress to create a township within Pinal County but no action was taken until November 29enth that same year due to lack of funds (). On May 9th 1876 the New Mexico Territorial Legislature created Pinal County comprising much larger portions east than today's Gilbertshire Township including most parts currently within Chandler and Surprise Counties including present day Nacooches Creek Township south of I–15 just north of US 66/State Road 97B and present day Mesa Verde National Forest northwest corner just east Of I–20/State Road 93W Nearly two hundred years later Gilbert celebrates its 350th anniversarySM! Today there are still numerous descendants living in various areas throughout western USA., primarily in Phoenix however other main towns include Scottsdale AZ., Glendale AZ., Tempe AZ., Flagstaff AZ., Cottonwood Heights CA., Sierra VistaAZ(), Fountain Hills AZ,, Peoria IL,. etc.. Arizona became one state on September 16th 1912 following passage of Proposition 8Measure II () ratified by 89% majority vote among Arizonans who did not want annexation into any other United States territory (). The townspeople quickly organized themselves into committees to provide leadership on behalf of their community as well as future annexation prospects (). The first official act took place December 12th 1912 when Mayor Wm Henson appointed a committee consisting mostly residents themselves to study annexation opportunities available between Arizona and New Mexico On January 9th 1913 territorial governor Hiram Johnson convened a meeting at Fort McDowellvillage adjacent to Tombstone Army Depot with representatives from both New Mexico Territory and Arizona Territory in order discuss annexation possibilities Governor Johnson recommended against annexation based upon concerns about resources availability (), political instability (), possible competition for jobs between New Mexico Territory and Arizona Territory (), social unrest caused by large numbers arriving without proper passports (), lack of infrastructure or water facilities necessary for such an massive influx (), etc... On February 26th 1913 Territorial Legislature approved Resolution No 1 authorizing establishment within Prescott Municipal Limits τ(present dayGilbert ) instead creating Prescott Township downstream ......Today Prescott Township has an approximate population size OF 2200 people excluding Glendale City limits which have since annexed .....It should also be noted that individual townships do not have populations above 1000 persons although some may boast even higher populations given their close proximity to larger cities like Phoenix
