Eloy is a small town in Arizona located on the east side of the state. The population was 1,500 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Eloy were Mormons who came in 1859 and founded a mission there. The town was named for General Don Felipe de la Vega y Costilla, a Mexican general who helped to drive out Mexican settlers in 1847. After Mexico's collapse, American troops advanced into what is now Arizona in 1853 and discovered an Apache Indian village called Pee-wee-hee (“the place where they make their pipes”). Realizing that this village could be threat to his army's supply line, General Santa Clara decided to destroy it rather than leave it undefended. He ordered his soldiers to open fire on the Indians as they emerged from their shelters and killed most of them. A few survivors ran off into the hills but many more remained behind and surrendered when 5 companies of Ulysses S. Grant's Army invaded Eloy on July 23, 1863 during the Battle of Tucson Campaign (). In 1865, after years of negotiations with both Mexico and America, Juan Bautista Alvarado became governor of New Mexico Territory; he transferred some land south of Tucson into Arizona Territory as part of this deal. In March 16, 1912 Eloy had its incorporation as a county within Arizona Territory under territorial governor Elisha Grayhorn Johnston (). On November 15th 1912 citizens voted 3-2 in favor of annexing neighboring Pinal County which included Flagstaff proper (now Mesa) within its boundaries; however, because Pinal County was only created two months earlier than Eloy it did not receive full incorporation until February 1913 (see below). In 1916–17 local journalist John Wesley Powell visited Eloy while writing "The Great North East Passage" (1916), one chapter of which described: "It has been said that if you go around any corner hereabouts you will find evidence that somebody has been living here for centuries...There are several places where extraordinary amounts OF HONEY HAVE BEEN pickupen FROM THE WOODS IN FRONT OF THESE CEMETERS [PEE-WEE-HEE]". While upon his trip Powell also found evidence CREOSOTS WORN BY ANTIFABIANS ON FENCE OUTSIDE CHURCH AND THAT ELOY WAS HOME TO AN AZtec CITY WHICH SOLD ITS TREASURES TO THE UNITED STATES PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM AFTER THEY WERE DESTROYED BY THE FORCES BASED IN ARIZONA IN 1893." This article does not mention anything about gold or Creosots being worn by Antifaans outside church nor about Eloy being home to an Aztec City which sold its treasures to the United States Public School System after they were destroyed by forces based in Arizona in 1893

Eloy is a small community located in Pinal County, Arizona. It was founded in 1902 by Don Eloy and his wife, Maria. The original town was built on the banks of the river San Pedro River. Today, Eloy has a population of about 375 people and it is the only incorporated community in Pinal County. The name "Eloy" comes from Spanish words meaning "forested place." At first, the town was just called Indian Wells because that's where most of the trees were found. In 1907, Don Eloy decided to change the name to honor his friend and business partner, John A. Weiser. Weiser had been instrumental in helping build Mesa Verde National Park and later served as its first president. In 1912, Don Eloy decided to add an extra store to help support his growing community. He named the store "The Gilded Cage." The store soon became one of the most popular businesses in town and helped make Eloy one of America's leading mining communities. In 1925, during World War II, The Gilded Cage closed its doors for good due to wartime rationing but it reopened later that year as an air-raid shelter with a play area for children . Today's residents are descendants of those who originally settled here over 100 years ago. There are still many reminders of that time in Eloy - such as street namesakes like Tomahawk Drive and Cowboy Walk - as well asunique businesses such as Frito-Lay’s Old School Store which remain open today despite being out-of-business for more than 50 years!
Eloy is a small town in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,995 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tucson metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now Eloy were pioneers who arrived in 1864 from New Mexico. They named their new settlement after Manuel Nieto, an explorer and surveyor who had gone before them and explored this region. Mexican land grants were made to these early settlers and they continued to live there until 1912 when the U.S. acquired most of Arizona from Mexico through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. AfterArizona became a state on January 6th 1912, Eloy's citizens voted to become a city and name it after themselves – Eloy City (in honor of their founder). The first mayor of Eloy was Amedeo Perez and the first Councilman was Francisco Cuevas-Cruz. In 1951, Mayor Luis Herrera resigned due to health reasons but his successor Don Percival Sánchez served until 1955 when he left for military service in Korea; during his absence, Mayor Pedro Martinez took office under ActingMayor José Alonso Vargas (1955-1959). In 1957, Mayor Martinez appointed former mayor Pedro Martinez as City Manager with responsibility for all aspects of municipal life including public works and services such as libraries, parks and recreation; fire protection; street lighting; watermain replacement; emergency medical services; animal control; garbage collection; trash collection; zoning code enforcement etc.; also providing leadership for citywide planning initiatives such as downtown redevelopment or widening US Highway 90 from four lanes to six throughout the city center district while still maintaining its character as an agricultural community with rolling hills near Interstate 10
