It began as a post office called Fort Sill on February 14, 1881. The name change came about because Eloy was one of the first towns to be established in what is now Pinal County. The current spelling of the town comes from an American politician who was born there and campaigned for its use on his political slogan "Eliy Home" which he used while running for office. The site where Eloy stands today was long known as the Fort Sill Indian Reservation but it wasn't until 1907 that white people started coming to live here permanently. George Armstrong Custer's family settled here in 1887 and cattle ranchers followed soon after. In 1912, construction began on what would become the first school in Eloy when Drury School District #1 split off from Drury School District #2 and built their own schoolhouse which still stands today on 5th Ave SW in downtown Eloy. In 1937, JZ Ellis founded Goldwater Mining Company with his brother-in-law Clyde Goldwater and developed a new mining district around present day Eloy called Goldwater No Name Hills which produced over 100 million gold nuggets during World War II alone! Today there are still several clearcut mines left in this old district that can be toured if you're brave enough to venture down into them! The 1940s were really tough for small towns like Eloy as they all facedthe same challenges: jobs lost due to WW II; hard times caused by inflation; and then finally Dust Bowl years with no relief found until ELOY HELPED!!! In 1948 Bob White founded White Bros Coal & Coke company out of his home garage and quickly became one of the biggest coal companies west of Chicago! With help from local businesses like Donny Hansen’s Menominee Lumber Company (now known as Hansen Road Logistics) we were able to build up our production so much that we ended up being able to bring electricity into our community for the first time ever!!! This not only saved us from going bankrupt but also allowed us to start investing money back into our community instead of just handing it over blindly without giving it any thought whatsoever!!!!! We thank God every day that we could have helped out these little villages back then!!!!!

Eloy, Arizona is a town in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 2,947 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The first Eloy post office was established on February 14, 1912. The name "Eloy" comes from Spanish and means "a good place to stay." The town began as a small community of about 50 residents located along the Tanque Verde River in what is now Eloy Mesa. In 1914 the townsite was platted and became a borough under the jurisdiction of Tucson. In 1916, five years after its incorporation as a town, Eloy had an oil well drilled and production began that year. From 1917 to 1922 (the last year with oil production), Eloy received support from both state and local governments for heavy industry in what would become known as `the boomtown boom.' The wells produced asphalt then used to make blocks for building construction; ELOY STATION WAGON WELDING CO., INC., \ predecessors thereto) manufactured gasoline tanks then used by motorists traveling down 8th Avenue (now US-60) until 1959 when it closed because of pollution problems caused by emissions from open-air burning of coal tar paint synthesis gas .
