It was used as a security guard at the Douglas courthouse until 1934 when it was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Jerald Stanley for use as their home’s defense weapon. From there, it passed through several hands before being donated to the University of Arizona in 1958 by Mrs. Stanley with an inscription reading “to my husband and children who have helped me keep this firearm dry during many years of college life” The university did not keep the weapon but gave it back to her heirs in 1984 after storing it in their library ever since. The next gun donation came in 1978 when Rufus Pritchett of Scottsdale contributed a Colt Python handgun to the University of Arizona Firearms Museum which is now located on campus across from the judo studio where Mr. Pritchett taught for many years before his death in 1989 aged 91 years old . The museum has preserved thisguns ever since and is open to the public each day from 9am-4pm except for Christmas Day (which is closed). In 1990, Johnnie Ray donated an American Arms shotgun to the University of Arizona Firearms Museum also located on campus across from the judo studio where Mr. Pritchett taught for many years before his death in 1989 aged 91 years old . Thisgun has been stored indoors ever since and can be visited each day from 9am-4pm except for Christmas Day (which is closed). In 2003, James Wooten donated an ejector type shotgun to be displayed at local gun shows along with other items including tools used by firearmsmiths such as gunshears, hammers and chisels dating back over 100 years! Douglas was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1881 and named for General David Douglas, who fought in the Mexican-American War. The current city of Douglas was incorporated in 1907 and named after General Douglas. The town was first populated by Mormons from Utah who had arrived there during the Gold Rush to prospect for gold. They built a cabin and started trading with other ranchers and farmers in what is now east Pinal County. In 1881, Brigham Young called on his followers to move westward into what is now Arizona Territory because he saw new land available there that could be developed as a ranching country. The pioneer families who moved toDouglas were: John Hanks (1850-1927), James Wickersham (1857-1914), George Atherton (1859-1945), Lorenzo Snow (1861-1920) , Zebulon Pike Richardson (1868-1937) and Orson Pratt ( 1871 - 1957). They established cattle ranches, sheep operations, fruit orchards and wheat fields around their homes until they realized they would need more than just hands to run these businesses successfully. By 1907, when the city of Douglas was incorporated and named for General Douglas, most of the original Mormon settlers had died from natural causes or persecution by Mexicans living near their homes; however some returned over time to bring their families with them or continue farming while living among fellow Anglo Americans [1]. This migration followed many similar patterns throughout northern Mexico during this period as laborers streamed southward looking for opportunities following rumors of rich mineral deposits waiting to be discovered [2], but unlike those groups which primarily sided with American forces against Mexican insurgents during the war years – such as Anglo California gold miners – wagon trains carrying Mormon colonists often ended up targeted by Mexico’s army along routefinder trails leading northward out of Baja California Peninsula [3],[4]. These interactions led eventually to large numbers of Latter Day Saints crossing into southern Arizona territory through here between 1882 and 1886 when Ulysses S Grant ordered PresidentMexican general Antonio López de Santa Anna not pursue any further hostilities against American forces operating across Central America following his successful campaign against Santa Ana’s army at Buenavista[5].
