Douglas, Arizona is a town located in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 2,912 at the 2010 census. Douglas is home to the University of Phoenix and various businesses and industries. The town was named for Commodore John Douglas who fought in the Mexican-American War and then served as governor of Arizona from 1881 to 1887. The first settler in Douglas was Wm. H. Brown who arrived on December 6, 1865. The first post office established in Douglas was called Litchfield which opened on February 14, 1867. Other early settlers include Edward Blythe who arrived on September 10, 1868 and James Hardesty who arrived on October 3rd of that year. Many of the early pioneers were farmers with some holdings also being used for cattle drives and stagecoaches along what is now US Highway 191A (now US Highway 8). It wasn’t until after World War II when many businesses started up within the small community which made it an attractive place to live even today including several universities such as the University of Phoenix since it had been available since 1906 when it opened its doors as a teacher training school known as Central High School. Most people think about Douglas during their winter break when they are exploring this beautiful corner of Arizona while they are here but there are plenty of other things to do all year round if you want to enjoy this charming little town! There are several cultural attractions like art shows at the Museum Of Northern Arizona or performances by local orchestras at Valley Arts Center; shopping at local boutiques or farmer’s markets; dining out at restaurants like Texaco’s Restaurante or Ruby Tuesday; playing golf at nearby Lakeside Country Club or Sun Devil Stadium; taking tours around downtown where you can visit historical markers such as Pioneer Cabinetry Company Building #1 or Adobe Walls; taking walks along old Route 191A which runs through downtown before ending back up with US Highway 191A just outside town limits making it easy access from all directions without ever leaving your comfortable living space!

Douglas, Arizona is a town in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 2,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tucson metropolitan area. Douglas was founded in 1907 by farmers and ranchers who were looking for an agricultural community that would be accessible to their customers from east of the mountains and north of Tucson. The name Douglas comes from a local Apache chief named Hualalai (a version of his full name "Hugh Douglass"). The first store in Douglas opened on February 14, 1907. By 1912, there were five stores and twenty-four businesses in the small town. Businesses included groceries, clothing stores, hotels/motels and coal mines. In 1916, Douglas had its first school which served grades one through four; it was housed on a single room schoolhouse built by the town's trustees. In 1929, when Pinal County became Arizona Territory, Douglas became its second city with a population over 1,000 residents only six years later! In 1938–39 World War II shutdown the local coal mining industry which led to many businesses closing down including two grocery stores and three banks which closed due to low demand for loans during wartime times; however large numbers of employees stayed behind to run these businesses during this difficult time period as many people did not have other options available to them during wartime times as well as after war ended Today Douglas is still home to many farming families and small business owners who continue production of crops such as corn and beans while also operating night clubs (the first being established in 1947), churches (two are currently active) along with several restaurants serving American cuisine such as Mexican food or Italian food etc., all within walking distance from each other making it easy for everyone living here to get involved in various aspects of life without feeling isolated or separate from anything else going on around them
