Coolidge was born on October 12, 1872 in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. After studying at The George Washington University and Harvard Law School, he served as a judge on the Boston Municipal Court from 1897 to 1901. He then served as the United States Minister to Mexico City from 1903 to 1905 and as the United States Ambassador to France from 1907 to 1909. He won reelection as a U.S. Senator in 1912 and 1916 and again in 1920. As president of the United States (1928-30), he made significant changes in American politics, including the repeal of Prohibition and creating Social Security legislation. In 1932 he was reelected by a wide margin with only one percent of the popular vote against Franklin D. Roosevelt. After his death, Coolidge was buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
In 1924, Coolidge was elected to the United States Senate and served from 1925 to 1933. In 1932, he became President of the United States. He is best known for his New Deal policies which aimed to improve the economy and provide relief for American citizens during the Great Depression.
