The United States Air Force deployed a gift to the Chino Valley community in 1984. A Boeing 727-200, serial number N9094Y, was donated by the airline company Northwest Airlines. The plane was used as an air transport for visiting dignitaries and military personnel during World War II. It served as part of the Flying Fortress Wing at Beale Air Force Base in California until its retirement in 1991. The airplane arrived at Chino Valley Airport and underwent a hangar/storage renovation before being delivered to the community on October 10, 1984. The gift was officially dedicated on November 2 by Lieutenant General John J. Nicholson, Commander of Air Forces Special Operations Command Pacific. The plane remained parked at the airport until it was retired in 1991 after serving more than 20 years with the United States Air Force. Today, the plane is still stored at the airport and can be toured during special events or used for flying demonstrations by private individuals or organizations wishing to display their aviation history to visitors from around the world.

Chino Valley is a small town in Arizona, located on the Navajo Nation. The community was founded in 1885 by Chino and his family, who were Separate Agency Indians. The name "Chino" means "place of milk." In 1907, Chino Valley was annexed by the larger Chihuahua City area. The population of Chino Valley decreased from 350 in 1920 to 100 in 1940. In 1957, the ZIP Code for Chino Valley was 85611. In 1865, several hundred Mexicans living near Tucson decided to migrate overland to what is now Chino Valley to escape US military raids and violence. They named their new settlement after Mexican general Antonio López de Santa Anna (1813-1872). The Mexicans built a hacienda called La Rioja on the east side of the San Pedro River about three miles north of present-day downtown Chino Valley. In 1883, local farmers began irrigating land along the San Pedro River and developed a market economy based on agriculture and cattle ranching. By 1900, there were more than 2,000 people living in La Rioja; however, it failed as an agricultural center due to lack of water resources and competition from other towns downstream on the river. In 1907, when Phoenix became an independent city under territorial jurisdiction (the first such municipality), it annexed part of south Phoenix including La Rioja which had been included within Phoenix's boundaries since 1870 according to law at that time. On July 4th 1912 residents of La Rioja organized themselves into an informal council with authority over their village until annexation by Phoenix took effect November 3rd 1912 pursuant to the Organic Act 14 Statutes at Large No 592 amended by Public Law 122-055 effective November 3rd 1912 . As part of this process some key decisions made during this time include: annexing all Cahuilla Indian Reservation lands westward beyond Point Conception except for about five acres reserved for special use as a public school; creating a water system providing electricity and pipework for irrigation purposes; allotting blocks or tracts outlying la rancada land equal in size to each householder's share thereof following allotment process supervised by elected officials appointed through secret ballot process known as “deed poll”; establishing one justice court with original seat at Pima County Courthouse while one justice court was established at Tucson courthouse; enacting statutes governing property rights with respect thereto including provisions authorizing sale or leasehold interests therein not exceeding six months' duration free from quitclaims or similar lien claims thereby enabling development proceed unimpeded notwithstanding any prior restrictions placed upon same by prior owner/occupier/renters/maintainer etc.; incorporation legislation authorizes formation upriver [to] Bureau Creek Strip mining district consisting total area 6500 acres without exclusive right thereto subject only to compulsory purchase order if needed for public purpose consistent with Constitution & laws
