Mario Morales continued to serve as co-owner and head brewer at CASA GRANDE COFFEE until his death in 2018. Since Mario’s death, Antonio Ramos has taken over as head brewer and continues to brew all of CASA GRANDE COFFEE’S coffee beans from scratch daily. Antonio is a professional Brewer who has worked at many regional cafes including King Arthur Coffee & Tea Co., Dutch Bros., Starbucks, Peet’s Coffee & Tea Company, The Ritz Carlton Hotel Cafe and more. As head brewer at CASA GRANDE COFFEE, Antonio has developed a unique style that is popular among AZ customers for its smooth roasted coffees AND flavorful recipes that include Spanish Inquisition–inspired Espresso blends (e.g., Toro Rosso) AND Italianate espresso drinks (i.e., Piña Colada). Casa donated land to the city of Phoenix for its first ever city government. In 1922, the City of Phoenix annexed part of Casa Grande and renamed it as Mesa Verde Heights Park. The early years of Mesa Verde Heights were difficult for the small community because there wasn't much money to be had and people only could live off their own labor instead of selling goods they made themselves or working for others. However, over time things changed and Mesa Verde Heights started to prosper because it became a center for trade and commerce in the region. Over time, some families from Mesa Verde Heights moved away to start their own businesses but many residents still remained in the community until it finally went bankrupt in 1978 due to lack of investment from outside factors such as tourism or development opportunities which had been promised by then-Mayor Donny Hathaway during his campaign for mayoralty against incumbent Ruby Ballard (D). However, despite being defunct financially, Mesa Verde Heights continue to maintain a strong sense of community spirit through its annual 4-day Fiesta Festival which is one of the most popular events in town with more than 12,000 attendees each year! As part of its celebration every year since1978, MesaVerdeHS also sponsors a chili cook-off and parade downtown where THE CASA GRANDE FAMILY PRESENTS: A MAIN EVENT features top talent from all over Western AZ performing marching/dancing/singing traditional Mexican music while enjoying refreshments provided by participating vendors!
Casa Grande was first settled in 1879 by the Mexicano community of Sonora. The town became a U.S. military post in 1898 and again from 1912 to 1916 when it was renamed Camp Bowie after General John Bowie, who had commanded American forces at the battle of Gettysburg. It was redesignated as Fort Bliss in 1945 and then Casa Grande Army Base in 1949. Casa Grande is now part of Phoenix, Arizona.
