Avondale, Arizona is a city in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 11,878 at the 2010 census. Avondale is located on the eastern edge of the Phoenix metropolitan area and is part of the Phoenix–Mesa–Scottsdale Combined Statistical Area. It lies just to the east of US-90 (the main thoroughfare in Phoenix) and borders Tempe to its south and Scottsdale to its north. The first Europeans to come through this area were traders from Spain who landed in what is now Tucson on September 12, 1873. They named their landing point "Nogales" after Nogales Creek which they believe ran through present-day Avondale. The first permanent settler in what became Avondale was George Dove who built a cabin on land he donated near what is now Gahanna Avenue and First Street in 1881. Dove made his home until his death in 1916 at age 91 years old. In 1912, real estate developer James Fenton bought 1/2 mile (3 km) of east side of present day Second Street from George Dove for $1,000 cash and began developing it as a subdivision called "Fenton's Mesa". In 1932 construction began on what would become Fenton's Village which included 6 homes numbered 117-128 deeded by Gershon Fenton to himself along with 2 lots measuring . He also donated 5 acres (20 hectares) northeast of those homes for development into an open air park known as "Fenton's Valley". The first residents moved into their new homes during 1933 when Fenton opened up his parkland for public use. In 1947 aviators Clarence Akeley and John Mitchell flew over Prescott Valley on their way back from Japan; they became the first people ever to fly over Prescott Valley without visiting it before returning home that same day aboard an airplane carrying General Electric Corporation executives Harry Hughes and other employees out en route to meet President Truman at Peoria Airport. In 1951 aviator Willis McGhee used Prescott Valley airstrip as temporary home base while flying experiments with an experimental jet engine prototype he had developed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base outside Dayton, Ohio Avondale has been inhabited by successive waves of Native Americans since prehistory: Paleoindians hunted game here; Mogollon Indians occupied this area about 8500 BP; growth warrants occupation by Hispanic American miners beginning around 1800 AD; European settlement begins with Spanish presence c 1760s but largely uneventful until 1875 when Apache raiders attack small town including Massacre Mountain However no one was killed or hurt since all men fleeing took horses then went away leaving women and children behind This event led Mexico City governor Anaya order military detachment led by Col Hernandez march against Apache forces 3 miles northwest of town resulting 10 dead including most women taken prisoner numbers never released until recently after many appeals Mexican government finally releases documents giving total number Killed: 10 Modoc: 3 Navajo: 0 The last major Indian occupants were Arizonans who arrived during post-World War II period following establishment of U S Military Air Forces Pacific region Midway Islands territory which included much later North Rim portion of Prescott Valley The last Arizonan resident left when U S Army abandoned air force station there in 1955

Avondale is a small town in Arizona, located on the outskirts of Phoenix. The town was founded in 1912 by men from that area of the country. George had emigrated from England and Harry from Scotland. They both worked as farmers and traders before coming to America in 1881. The avondales were a Scottish-Irish family who had come overland through what is now Mexico City on their way to North America. The first house built inAvondale was a log cabin near Center Street and Pima Creek. In 1912, when it became clear that many people were moving into the area, the brothers built a more permanent structure, which they called "The Lodge." The Lodge served as the town's first courthouse and meeting place for 20 years until it burned down in 1942. In 1913, Avondale added an additional block of buildings to its core – this time calling them "The Square." This square still stands today, housing various businesses such as banks, hotels and restaurants along with municipal offices and residences. Over time,Avondale has become known as one of the most vibrant communities in Phoenix – home to artists, entrepreneurs and professionals alike. In recent years,the city has seen an increase in development around its periphery including an arts district on Roosevelt Row; plans for a new downtown convention center; and efforts to improve access to transportation options such as MARTA or I-10 choking off parts of downtown while leaving some areas without services at all
