The roasting process is complex, and it takes many hours to produce the perfect cup of coffee. The first step in the roasting process is to clean the beans. The beans are boiled with water and then ritualized with a keystroke. This involves pressing down on them until they break down into small pieces. Next, they are heated until they start to roast evenly. This can take up to an hour or more, depending on the temperature of your ovens and how well you’ve programmed your ovens accordingly. The Avondale Coffee Roasters was founded in 1994 by Greg and Cathy Macdonald. The couple opened the first roastery in the Phoenix area, and soon began importing coffee from all over the world. They continue to roast and sell their coffee today under the name ofAvondale Coffee Roasters.
Avondale is a small, unincorporated community in Pima County, Arizona. It is located on the south side of the Arizonan city of Phoenix. The first European to visit what is now Avondale was Captain James Cook in 1768. He and his crew were exploring the area when they came across a large watercourse that led to what is today Phoenix. The site where Avondale now stands was given its name from General Philip Halleck, who surveyed and named this area for General John Averell Harriman, commander of United States forces at the Apache Wars. Avondale began developing as a town in 1887 when two families pooled their money to buy land east of downtown Phoenix. By 1899, there were over 100 residents living in Avondale proper and more than 200 people working in local businesses. In 1912, the city of Phoenix annexed part of Pima County and became known as Phoenix metropolitan territory; however, it remained an unincorporated community until 1959 when it became part of the new City of Glendale. In 1958, parts of Glendale were annexed intoAvondale; however, most residents continued to live in downtown areas such as Main Street and Pershing Square until 1974 when all incorporated municipalities within Glendale merged into one municipality called Mesa Valley Municipal District No. 1 which includes all present-day Avondale except for an enclave on east side near University Avenue that remains unincorporated. The population density in 1957 was 7 people per square mile (2 people per square kilometer). By 1974 it had increased to 13 people per square mile (4 people per square kilometer). Today there are about 200 residents living in downtown areas with additional housing developments scattered throughout the communities surrounding Glendale including Mesa Valley Municipal District No. 1 which has a population density over 20 people per square mile (10 person per square kilometer).
