The Apache Junction National Guard was organized on November 15, 1912. It is the oldest national guard unit in Arizona and has been providing security for the community since 1912. The unit was first known as the Arizona Division of the Women's National Guard. On July 1, 1916, it became an all-male division. In 1951, it was renamed the Apache Junction National Guard and currently serve as a subordinate arm of the Department of Defense (DoD). The history of the Apache Junction National Guard can be traced back to 1912 when two women – Alice Dolan and Lillie “Bessie” Heffernan – banded together to form a group seeking to protect their community from lawlessness and bandits. The pair quickly rose through ranks within their unit until they were given command of its own brigade in 1917. From here they led their brigade into battle against both Mexican insurgents and mountain bandits while also carrying out numerous civic duties such as providing food stamps to local families. Throughout World War II, the APHAG served alongside many other branches of DoD throughout Southern California including Army Service Forces (ASF), Strategic Air Command (SAC), United States Marine Corps (USMC)，and Coast Guard Reserve units before disbanding at war’s end on September 2, 1945. Following World War II, members of the APHAG gathered together once again to rebuild following Reconstruction which had left so many communities across America ravaged by poverty and social unrest. Upon reformation in 1951, most importantly thanks to then-Chief Warrant Officer First Class Donny Wagoner who spearheadred efforts within DoD for battalionization within national guard units nationwide he named his new brigade “Apache Junction” after one of his hometown's main thoroughfares in order that locals would know more about their team’s presence within society rather than simply seeing them as an outside force protecting them from harm or possible attack should things happen elsewhere in town or outside our municipality borders In 1978 Apaches Joint Forces Support Battalion activated under command of III Marine Expeditionary Force during Yuma strike campaign against communist forces inside Vietnam apachejunctionfc@aol dot com
