During World War II, Governor George Wallace appointed General James Moseley commandant of the state militia to operate from Foley while he served as governor. When Wallace resigned in 1948 due to allegations of bribery and corruption, Lieutenant Colonel W S Hogg became commandant effective January 1st 1949 until his promotion to colonel on July 1st 1951 after leading Troop G1 (the first civilian troop ever assigned permanently to duty with the Alabama National Guard) into action at Selma against civil rights demonstrators led by Dr Martin Luther King Jr.. The city council voted 9-0 on November 12th 1960 to accept 130 guardsmen who had volunteered their services during Birmingham’s “ sit-in†movement earlier that year which followed Montgomery’s integration decision and resulting unrest across Central Alabama In 1962 Captain Harry Bailey assumed command from Lt Col W S Hogg when Commandant Harry Bailey retired due health reasons In 1963 Captain Harry Bailey assumed command from Lt Col W J Slaughter when Commandant Harry Bailey retired due health reasons In 1965 Captain Harry Bailey assumed command from Captains Jack Crabtree and Don Griggs when Commandant Harry Bailey retired due health reasons Commander Tom Kapp took over for Captains Jack Crabtree and Don Griggs effective October 1st 1966 until his promotion to Major effective December 15th 1966 after leading Troop E (the third Infantry Regiment ever called up for duty with Alabamian Guards) into action at Tuscaloosa against students protesting racial discrimination

Afterward, many members of the Guards retired or became discharged veterans and formed small groups who continue to serve today as part of various auxiliary organizations including law enforcement services; disaster relief; education programs; and unit promotion ceremonies for members who receive awards from other branches of government or from their peers within their unit or organization

By 1900 Folly had about 350 residents; by 1910 it had increased to 2200 thanks to immigration from Italy and other parts of Europe."
